Sounds like a great book to add to my arsenal.

Nicole ~ You're right confidence is key to our writing life. We're alone so much of the time that we really need to work to not allow those negative thoughts and emotions determine our course or keep us from living the lives we want to live.

Debra ~ I'm sorry that happened to you. Yes, we can be our own worst enemies, however, others do often help us down a certain path, don't they? Hope you can defuse those unhelpful thoughts and move ahead. ;0) Good luck!

Keely ~ Who knew Mary Kay was so progressive? LOL. Yes, lots of this thinking is business leadership or adds to the success of those in business or leadership roles. Never a bad thing for us to learn a new skill that helps us get ahead in life. :0)

Lisa ~ You're right. But we internalize and begin to believe that we are what we think we are and we can become fatalistic. Not allowing unhelpful or negative emotions to rule our lives is one key to success. Asking "Does this help me reach my goal?" is a good question.Candy Lyonshttp://www.candylyons.netnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5115759973832197426.post-69491929473025650512011-09-19T17:23:44.044-04:002011-09-19T17:23:44.044-04:00Glad you got your mojo back, Candy! Cause I can't imagine you losing your sex appeal, lady!

All joking aside, I'm sincerely glad you got your mojo back. Really, when you think about it, it's one of the main tools in a writer's kit. We need it. Writing is a long, frustrating haul. I'm not always good at it, but I get the idea!

We so often get hung up on thinking and we are so often way too good at trashing ourselves. I read something recently about your thoughts not being you - that you are separate from your thoughts and you don't have to let them define you or to act upon them. This sounds like a clearer explanation of that same idea.

Glad you got your mojo back. :) Since writing is such a lonely pursuit, that's one thing that writers can do for each other - encourage each other when our confidence starts to flag.Lisa McQuayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08261421741139099750noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5115759973832197426.post-74914921049646433792011-09-18T22:29:31.128-04:002011-09-18T22:29:31.128-04:00This comment has been removed by the author.Lisa McQuayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08261421741139099750noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5115759973832197426.post-79189637651474906772011-09-18T20:27:39.929-04:002011-09-18T20:27:39.929-04:00Yes, it's one of those books you can work your...Yes, it's one of those books you can work your way through to absorb so much that might apply. I know we've had conversations recently about some of these issues. So it should be helpful on many levels. ;0) Hope you enjoy it. “Recognizing a thought o...Candy! I need this book.

“Recognizing a thought or belief as unhelpful often helps to reduce its influence over us; it makes us less likely to act on it. . . . [T]he question we’re interested in is simply this: ‘If I let this thought dictate my actions, will it help me to lead the life I want?’” (p 70).

I just ordered this book!
