I loved Brother Cadfeal (sp) so this sounds like a close female version of that popular series. I'll have to try it. Thanks! What a great compendium of the genre!

You go, girl! ;0) Mackenzie Lucashttp://www.mackenzielucas.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5115759973832197426.post-81492594760275803862013-07-02T09:12:25.779-04:002013-07-02T09:12:25.779-04:00Nichole,

It would be interesing to read the maize stories, with the maggie hope stories with the non-fic book you recommended: The Girls of Atomic City: The Untold Story of the Women Who Helped Win World War II

shellieShellie Williamshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14597975902316586870noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5115759973832197426.post-34816941307421592752013-07-01T21:52:29.886-04:002013-07-01T21:52:29.886-04:00Hi Shellie,

I love many of these and Jacqueline Winspear's Maisie Dobbs series. Set in the post WWI era, Maisie's experiences on the battlefields of France inspire her to hang out her own shingle as an investigator. The books always have a poignant twist at the end.

And now after reading your post, I feel like a trip to the bookstore!Nichole Christoffhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09799006710672537142noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5115759973832197426.post-78522694870181034002013-07-01T14:56:13.293-04:002013-07-01T14:56:13.293-04:00KYL--

Also the Dame Frevisse mysteries by Margaret Frazer.

I'm definitely putting some of your suggestions on my summer reading list (which is already too long).

KarenKYLhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00714568270675910160noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5115759973832197426.post-66037626382633272932013-07-01T14:21:03.140-04:002013-07-01T14:21:03.140-04:00What a terrific cast of sleuths you've assembl...What a terrific cast of sleuths you've assembled, Shellie!

I used to be a big mystery reader and especially loved the ones with female sleuths. Some authors/heroines I'd add to the mix:

The Maggody series(Arly Hanks) by Joan Hess
The Aurora Teagarden series by Charlaine Harris
The Southern Sister Mysteries by Anne George

I guess these technically don't have anything to do with petticoats, but they're all southern settings, so maybe that can count for something!Keely Thrallhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05656529091898492453noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5115759973832197426.post-5665250397428559062013-07-01T10:55:53.860-04:002013-07-01T10:55:53.860-04:00Hi Christine,

Women were not cattle at that time and could hold office and own property.

Fidelma is strong, just and likeable. I admit to having lots of trouble with her boyfriend/husband who is just too wimpy for me.

shellieShellie Williamshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14597975902316586870noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5115759973832197426.post-51401440934820675912013-07-01T08:25:59.085-04:002013-07-01T08:25:59.085-04:00I've heard of some of these books, but not all...I've heard of some of these books, but not all of them.
