Once Upon a Time

I’ve been on a path to reinvention and I’ve almost finished one aspect of that process as of Friday. I’m very close to finishing my certification program. It’s a very strange feeling to be so close. I would have started another class on Monday but they cancelled it. So, I have to wait until April to finish.

But, for all intents and purposes, I did it.

Now, on to my next reinvention project—using my new certification to see what else is out there. It’s scary to think about since I’ve been in the same place for some time. But it’s also exciting.

But the main thing I’m excited about is getting back to writing. I’ve not been able to do much of it and I miss it. I miss getting the words down, revisions, brainstorming…everything about it. I feel strange without it, like I’m not quite whole. This is another reinvention of sorts. I’m happy to be able to rededicate myself to my writing. I miss the creative process.

If nothing else, it reaffirms that I really do want to write. It’s what makes me happy and fulfills me. A friend of mine once told me that I was lucky to know what I’m passionate about since there are many people who live their whole lives without knowing this. I agree with her. Living a life not knowing what you should do is a scary, scary prospect. It’s much more frightening than facing change. Do you agree?

  2. "Living a life not knowing what you should do is a scary, scary prospect." I couldn't agree more! Every time I get into the doldrums, I remind myself that at least I know what I love to do, and that's to create stories. It's hard, but in the end, it's worth it.

Congrats to you on finishing up your class, and on getting back to writing! That's awesome! :-) :-) :-)

  3. I agree, Lisa. We are fortunate that we know our passion(s). Many people go their entire lives never knowing what they're good at and how they should be using those gifts and talents. Often, people buy into the fallacy that work and passions should always remain separate.

Congrats on finishing your classes and on the last remaining one in April. Change can be a little uncertain, but I think it's often less scary that being stuck or not growing. So, yeah you! Best wishes in finding your next landing spot. 😉

  4. Marceline, I'm sure that you will. And I'm pretty sure it has something to do with interacting with people. ;)

  5. Mackenzie, thank you! I like your comment about people thinking that work and passions are mutually exclusive. Michael Hauge said that characters living in their essence and not their identity by "The End" are what gives them a fulfilling life. Why should we be any different?

  6. Thank you, Misha! I agree with you - holding on to that thought when times get tough makes the tough times easier. :)

  7. So glad you're at the end of these particular studies! You've worked so hard! But that must be in your DNA because writing is hard work, too. Of course, when someone pursues her passion, the work feels less difficult.

You're so right, Lisa. I agree with you. Change is scary, but having a direction helps. And having a passion to pursue? That's got to be the best feeling of all! I'm glad you'll soon be in a position to pursue your passion again. (We should all be so lucky!) Enjoy every minute of it, friend!

  8. I often wonder what people do with their time at home in the evenings if they don't write. Now, I spend a lot of time not writing (hello FB and Netflix), but there's always this little buzz in my brain whispering, "Come on, write. You know you wanna." I can't really imagine life without that buzz, whether or not I pay attention to it. Passion, sense of purpose. I agree, it's nice to have it identified and it's even lovelier when you can pursue it.

Congrats on getting to the home stretch of your certification, Lisa. And good luck peering into new horizons for the changes YOU want to make.
